

The story overall can be a fairly predictable affair, with all of the sudden-but-inevitable betrayals and tragic-yet-motivational character deaths you’d expect from a big-budget popcorn flick.

Every one of Esposito's scenes is captivating. While a lot of the success of the character belongs to Esposito for his work on the role, the cinematic animation team deserves a commendation for translating the minute details in his performance onto digital character models. It’s a shame that the very end of the story doesn’t provide a clearer resolution for the many conflicts introduced throughout – though Castillo remains a memorable antagonist until the bitter end. He’s a boy trying to reconcile his understanding that the impact of our actions on others is more important than our own intentions with his father’s vehement belief that noble ends justify despicable means, which creates some powerful (if one-sided) tension throughout. Castillo's regime would be too preposterously evil to believe at times if not for its real-world inspirations.Ĭastillo’s underlings aren’t necessarily anyone to write home about, running the gamut from “psychotic navy Admiral” to “psychotic air force Captain” to “psychotic propaganda director.” They’re all played well, but even the more interesting inclusions of a North American pharma tycoon and Yara’s own friendly neighborhood mad scientist feel like familiar entries in the Big Book of Video Game Bad Guys – especially when compared to Esposito’s Castillo.Įvery one of Esposito’s scenes is captivating, particularly during the exchanges with his son, Diego. But it’s his unwavering devotion to his vision of a “perfect” Yara, along with Esposito’s natural gravitas and the stoic charm he projects to his still-loyal subjects, that make him a great foil to the chaotic diaspora of revolutionaries you’re working to unite as you attempt to topple the regime of El Presidente and his lieutenants. His regime would be too preposterously evil to believe at times, if not for its real-world South and Central American inspirations.

Approach the doorway to end the mission.Primarily modeled after Cuba, Yara is ruled by fascistic dictator Anton Castillo, who’s expertly portrayed by notorious TV bad guy Giancarlo Esposito with this performance, he has handily claimed the top spot on my list of favorite Far Cry villains (with apologies to Mr. Run toward the stairs behind two large statues. The garage holds another ton of lethal goodies. Jump down to the garage and stroll inside. Re-scan the area below for surviving mercs.

Proceed south from satellite dish after all the mercs perish. Launch rockets at the vehicles below so you don't have to deal with them on your way down. Also, be sure to take out the mortar merc ASAP. Snipe as many mercs as possible from the outhouse. There should be hostiles toward the east. Search the outhouse for health and a sniper rifle.

Jump over the boulder and head toward the satellite dish. Launch rockets at the mercs standing near a large boulder. Cross the log bridge after you wipe out all hostiles on the other side. Hop out of the buggy to scan the area to the northeast. Drive down to the spot where you killed the Fat Boys and begin shooting the mutants across the lava. It's too risky driving right by them, so take them down with the buggy's mounted weapon from a safe distance. Hop on the buggy and drive down the path. Go back downstairs to unlock the gate and enter the next area. Kill the mercs at the top and take the rocket launcher. Head toward the top of the fort by taking the stairs. Take the armour and the keycard from a nearby crate and exit. Completely rape the warehouse to replenish your weapons and ammo. Watch a cutscene - it looks like you're day has just become much worse. Enter a warehouse chockfull of lethal goodies. Ignore them and run straight for a hole located in the wall to get inside. You will see Fat Boys fighting some mercs near the gate. Stick to the left to pass by the mutants. Be sure to kill the gun-toting mutants on the beach.Īfter the mini-gun fiesta, run across the river. The mutants you ran past in the jungle will approach from the rear, so turn the mini-gun toward the jungle by hopping outside the chopper and grabbing the gun from the opposite side. Take the mini-gun and point it toward the advancing mutants across the river. Once you reach the chopper, Doyle tells you to make your way to the fortified walls on the other side of the river.
